KATIE'S BLOG - We're in France!
We have arrived and are settled in Chateaulin, a pretty, old
town way up the river Aulne from Brest. Last night we dropped our anchor about
half way up the river, just past some huge war ships and a small village - this
morning we’ve continued the journey in thick, white fog! On the way, we passed a small lock which had a
beautiful white and ginger cat which surprisingly was a stray (Reuben took
quite a fancy to it!)
Crossing the channel was fine, there was very little swell
and nobody was sea sick and in the end we changed our course from Roscoff to
Camaret. We made our own bread which tasted like cardboard, rock and oil but
somehow we all managed to swallow it down with a little water, until the next evening mum was still serving it up with tomato soup and crumpets.
I think we’ll still
be staying here for a week or so before we cross the Bay of Biscay. We are
looking for good weather and getting to know the town better – I’m glad we don’t
need to do any ocean crossings for a while at least.
A new species of bread has been invented – Bone bread!
